That’s the stage name of a singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer, Anja Franziska Plaschig. The Austrian artist compares her own way of creating music to painting. The list of her greatest inspirations includes the works of artists such as Xiu Xiu, Cat Power, Björk, Nico, Aphex Twin, Siergiej Rachmaninow and Arvo Pärt. Her records are sophisticated and serene compositions, combining classical traditions with electronic, gothic, avant-garde music and authorial songs. Anja Franziska Plaschig was growing up at a family farm in a small village in Styria. She’s been playing the piano since she was 6 years old and the violin since she was 14. In the meantime, she discovered electronic music and even though she had started prestigious graphic design studies, she quickly decided to focus on her music career. Her debut album, “Lovetune for Vacuum”, was released in 2009 and brought her instant fame across Austria and many other European countries. Her next album, “Narrow”, was published in 2012 and quickly topped the bestselling record charts in Austria. Over the next few years, she was taking a break from the music business, focusing on her personal life. After having a baby, the artist returned in 2018 with the “From Gas to Solid / You Are My Friend” album. Soap&Skin has collaborated with Apparat, among others, and recorded music for film and theatre, including one of the melodies used in the popular “Dark” series. Soap&Skin is also a member of the stargaze supergroup, next to Anna Calvi and Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab).
