Just like every year, the Silesian festival reaches for global inspirations to put them in a local context. From melodic, club-oriented electronica to avant-garde vocals and digital interpretations of traditional Persian music, there is something for everyone at the festival.

Among the artists just announced, the Austrian duo HVOB will present the most pop-like sounds. They are the favourites of the Polish audience, whose lively performances at TNMK2019 and Elektroklub VI continue to stir emotions. Anne Müller and Paul Wallner are not accidentally called one of the best liveacts in the world. In July in Katowice we will hear the group’s greatest hits as well as material from their new album “Too”. The Israeli duo Red Axes are also true favourites of the Polish audience. Specialists in hypnotic sets at the crossroads of acid house, techno and ethno, they enchant dancers with surprising twists and oriental richness of ornaments. Red Axes could not be missing from the programme of the 17th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. An even more danceable face of contemporary electronica will be presented by Eagles & Butterflies. The talent of this British artist has resulted in releases on such prestigious labels as Innervisions, Life & Death and Correspondant. In his own words, he “makes dancefloor pop music”, and his greatest achievement is the 80s-inspired track “Can’t Stop”.

In addition to the masters of dance music, TNMK2022 will feature a very strong representation of experimental and avant-garde sounds. The clash between the old and the new is present in Sote’s work, which is based on advanced technology and at the same time on the traditional music of Persia. Sote is sometimes referred to as “the driving force of the Iranian scene”. His recordings have been released on labels such as Warp, and the artist feels equally at home in clubs or art galleries. In cooperation with Tarrik Barri, he creates audiovisual worlds full of symbolic meanings. Sote’s performance guarantees high sensations and will be one of the most intriguing ones during the upcoming edition of the Festival

Similar sensations will be provided by a moving concert of a twelve-person vocal group, Shards. The skills of the British choir were appreciated by Nils Frahm himself. The members of the group present the possibilities of the human voice in a completely non-traditional way. Vocal experiments will also be presented by the Japanese artist Hatis Noit, who enchants with a style inspired by the music and folklore of the Land of the Rising Sun. Hatis Noit has collaborated with such artists as Matmos, The Bug, NYX Electronic Drone Choir, Masayoshi Fujita, Lubomyr Melnyk, and the famous director David Lynch is also her fan. On the other hand, the German duo ÄTNA combines sensual vocals with piano and analogue synthesisers, focusing on alt-pop. As the press wrote of them, they are “like Fever Ray meeting Grimes at London’s Royal Opera House”.

The most radical sounds in this line-up will be offered by CATNAPP. The Argentinian rapper and producer lives in Berlin, where she was discovered by the duo Modeselektor, who release her recordings on their label Monkeytown Records. CATNAPP combines a cutting-edge millennial aesthetic with open lyricism. Although Catnapp herself describes her music as pop, her songs are a wild mix of heavy bass, futuristic R&B and breakbeat with influences of modern rap. In Katowice, expect the unexpected.

This is still not the end of the unveiling of the program of the upcoming edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. One of the most appreciated music festivals in Europe confirms its status every year thanks to a fascinating artistic programme and remarkable location. It is worth visiting again.
