Legends, veterans and rising techno talents, phenomenal female duets, a master of elegant electronics, an exceptional live act, sensations from Kenya and Colombia and an intriguing debutant on the national stage – here is a galaxy of performers who will expand the program of the 20th edition of the festival. Passes are available at https://festiwalnowamuzyka.pl/.
The announcement opens with the duo CocoRosie. For over two decades, sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady have delighted the world with their own vision of experimental pop. The authors of such hits as “Lemonade” and “Werewolf” have had a powerful influence on artists following in their footsteps. Sierra is responsible for vocals, playing the guitar, piano and harp, while Bianca sings and operates the electronics. During their concert at TNMK 2025, we will hear material from the upcoming album, “Little Death Wishes”, and the line-up of CocoRosie will be expanded by invited instrumentalists. It will be a magical performance!
Terms such as “techno icon”, “legendary pioneer” or “cult DJ” have been often overused in recent years. They can be used without scruples in the case of the stars of TNMK 2025. Richie Hawtin is a true titan of the genre, who constantly pushes the boundaries of techno, surprising with revolutionary ideas. In Katowice, he will perform a new audiovisual set. DEX EFX X0X first resounded at the Movement Festival in Detroit and at the Sónar festival in Barcelona last summer. In June 2025, it will be presented to the Polish audience for the first time, and it will happen at Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. The name of course refers to the already iconic “Decks, EFX & 909” from 1999, but the artist achieves an even higher level of musicality, improvisation and complexity. – DEX EFX X0X continues my personal exploration of improvisation using modern technology, resulting in a unique sonic narrative – says Richie Hawtin.
Jeff Mills embodies the most important values of techno in every aspect of his career – innovation, irresistible power, openness. He is the creator of the iconic “The Bells”, the author of the soundtrack to the famous “Metropolis” by Fritz Lang, the pillar of many projects combining techno with jazz, classical and ethnic music. Mills is consistently ahead of his time. His music is both futuristic and primarily tribal, dance and abstract. Ben Sims also remains one of the most exciting techno DJs. He is a true master of playing using 3 to 5 decks at once. During the 20th edition of the festival, the veterans will also be joined by the newest resident of Berghain, Fadi Mohem, who, despite his young age, is increasingly making his mark on the techno scene.
In June, Alva Noto will also perform in Strefa Kultury in Katowice. One of the most respected figures in glitchy, minimalist electronica. He is best known for his soundtrack to the film “The Revenant” directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, which he co-wrote with Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. Their music has been nominated for awards such as the Golden Globes, BAFTA, Grammy, and Critics Choice Award. In Katowice, Alva Noto will play a unique, audiovisual set.
In June, Austrian duo HVOB, sometimes called “one of the best live acts in the world,” will provide more pop sounds. Singer Anne Müller and producer Paul Wallner are known for their exceptional live performances and dreamy songs that combine techno with electro pop. In turn, the young Polish vocalist Julia Rover will invite fans on a musical journey from the soothing tones of cold wave to the catchy synth-pop of the 80s. More exotic sounds will be provided by Ela Minus, a singer, songwriter, producer and performer from Colombia, who will perform with a live set, and Kabeaushé from Kenya. This former representative of the Nyege Nyege collective presents a colorful and crazy mix of pop, hip-hop and electronica. The current program is complemented by the female duo Mermaid Chunky, representing the cult label DFA. Their audiovisual work is one big party, collective dance and improvised chaos with pumping rhythms.
This is still just the beginning of announcements. More secrets of TNMK 2025 will be revealed soon. It is worth taking care of your ticket today!
The festival is sponsored by Tauron Polska Energia. Co-hosted by the City of Katowice.
