This will be no ordinary concert! Five old Commodore CBM 8032 computers will stand on stage, three of them emitting sound, one graphics and the last one controlling the others. The computers with their green screens will face the audience and will be operated by one of the greatest innovators in the world of electronic music. Robert Henke is the co-creator of Ableton, as well as a respected producer, known, among other things, for his recordings as Monolake. A limited number of one-day tickets for the opening concert are on sale now!
The opening ceremony of the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2024 will take place in a unique venue. It will be the Katowice City of Gardens – Krystyna Bochenek Institution of Culture. It is a place with special acoustic conditions and an excellent atmosphere. Years ago, even before moving to the new building, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio played there.
The star of the show will be Robert Henke, i.e. the co-creator of Ableton Live, also known under the pseudonym Monolake. His CBM 8032 AV project is an expedition into the abstract world of simple graphics and sounds, which can be extracted from refurbished Commodore computers from the 1980s. Although the total computing power of these machines is less than that of the simplest smartphone, Robert Henke is able to conjure up elaborate sound structures using specially written code. The old computers also generate images – sometimes ominously dystopian, sometimes nostalgically funny, but always unpredictable. Thanks to the unparalleled creativity of the co-creator of Ableton Live, outdated technology becomes a tool for creating extremely fresh-sounding music.
The preparation of the room for Robert Henke’s performance will be done by the team of the friendly Soundscape Foundation and Tauron Lab. On their initiative, surprising new media works of an experimental nature will be set up in the spaces of IK KMO. The opening concert will be followed by a dance afterparty at Jazz Club Hipnoza and the former Elektro club. Seats at the opening concert will be very limited. Along with the announcement, a limited pool of 1-day tickets goes on sale at a price of PLN 110. Until the pool is sold out, you can also purchase 3-day passes which include the opening concert.
More artists will soon join the programme of the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. Between 20 and 24 June 2024, the Culture Zone in Katowice will once again pulsate with music and attract thousands of visitors. Unique emotions, memorable concerts, exceptional artists and a unique location – this is the shortest recipe for the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival. It is worth visiting again.
