The symbol of British urban music of the 21st century returns after a long-time break to become the second headliner of this year’s edition of the festival. Next to Mike Skinner, the programme of the 15th edition will feature Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło, the most recognizable representatives of Polish electronic music in the world. During the second weekend of June, besides Skalpel, we’ll also hear Marcin Cichy’s new, unique project in collaboration with vocalist Karol Wróblewski. And thus the lineup of the 15th edition of the festival expands to 23 artists!

The moment Mike Skinner aka The Streets made his debut he was hailed the voice of British streets. This rapper, producer, DJ, singer, writer and actor is responsible for some of Britain’s most important songs of the century. After 5 albums and over 5 million records sold, in 2011 Mike Skinner decided to stop performing as The Streets. After a long-time break, Skinner returned with his phenomenal band for a well-received tour. Next year, The Streets is planning to release a new album and publish his debut feature film, both titled “The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light”. During the concert in Katowice, we’ll most definitely hear the biggest hits of The Streets as well as songs from the new, unpublished album!

Another star to return with new material is Skalpel, the international ambassadors of Polish electronic music. Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło have spent years combining local jazz inspirations with new electronic fascination. Their records caught the attention of the iconic Ninja Tune label. Over the last few years, the group played concerts with a big band, performing studio compositions arranged for a 17-person orchestra. The upcoming fourth album titled “Highlight” is the most eclectic record in Skalpel’s career. In Poland, it’ll be released on NoPaper Records, while in the world it’ll be promoted and distributed by the legendary !K7 Records label.

Marcin Cichy will also present his latest project Low Key. The duo created with vocalist Karol Wróclewski delivers electronic landscapes and modern songwriting in the style of Ry X and Rhye, with distant echoes of the ‘80s. The list of their inspirations includes the new wave, Peter Gabriel and Talk Talk. In 2019, Sound Improvement released their well-received debut album “Distance”.

It’s still not the end of unveiling the programme for the 15th Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice! More announcements coming soon! 3-day, 2-day and 1-day tickets are still available for sale. Just as in 2019, the festival Sunday will be free of charge. That’s when the participants will be able to enjoy another free dance marathon at Sztauwajery in Katowice – Fajrant!

With an annual lineup of fascinating artists and a remarkable location in the very heart of Silesia, Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice is considered one of the most recognised and appreciated music festivals in Europe. It’s well worth another visit. More information on the Festival’s website.
