DJ Krush and a plethora of Polish alternative musicians join the program of the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice!

20.03.2024

Artists A-Z:

The Japanese master of turntables and the top of the Polish off stage are the next artists to be heard in Katowice in June. The upcoming edition of the festival will be saturated with sounds from a wide variety of atmospheres – from downtempo and trip hop, through post rock, dance rap, psychedelic jazz, Latin tangos, to eclectic cross-genre fusions. Passes and tickets for the festival are available for purchase at https://festiwalnowamuzyka.pl/!

Another announcement of the festival’s lineup opens with a great personality of the music world. DJ Krush is a master mixer and one of the first DJs to use turntables as instruments. For more than 30 years he has been exploring his own vision of instrumental hip hop, ambient and trip hop, enriching the tracks also with sounds of dubstep and dark industrial electronics. He is the author of more than 20 full-length releases, including the award-winning “Zen” album. The Japanese maestro returns to Katowice after 18 years.

“One can talk about DJ Krush’s performance during the first edition of Nowa Muzyka for a long time. I still remember his show more than many other concerts from later editions. The artist will come to us with an excellent new album and this will be DJ Krush’s only Polish performance this year. You are cordially invited,” says Adam Godziek, festival organizer from More Music Agency.

In addition to the star from the Land of the Cherry Blossom, the festival program is expanded by a strong representation of domestic alternative music. Fresh jazz in various guises will dominate. It will be provided by artists from the Tricity scene, including the young formation Klawo. They draw inspiration from such diverse currents as funk, psychedelia, hip-hop and afrobeat, but jazz is always their binder. In addition to young talents, the festival will also hear live Tymon Tymanski and the legendary album “P.O.L.O.V.I.R.U.S.” by the band Kury. The reissue of the timeless album is accompanied by a one-of-a-kind concert on the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival stage. The Tricity’s landing in Silesia is complemented by the band Nene Heroine, which skillfully combines post-jazz and psychedelia, complementing the sound with dub and post-rock. Their compositions literally take the listener on a journey, and such an experience can be expected in June.

The festival will also feature vigorous and elegant Latin tangos, waltzes and bolers. Since his childhood spent in Colombia, Marcin Masecki has been greatly influenced by the musical culture of Latin America. The “Boleros y más” project presents works from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela in the version of a classical piano trio. This is another initiative by the artist to break down the boundaries between high art and entertainment. At the other extreme is the work of the festival’s next guests, Rat Kru. This is an original duo, combining uncompromising hip-hop with the sounds of raw electronics. Rat’s vision of rap is sure to move the festival audience to dance. The announcement closes with the band USO9001. The group’s name stands for Unidentified Sonoristic Object and is also a play on words on the name of the European quality standard ISO 9001. As they say themselves, they play off-jazz, hip-hop, guitar-based songs, as well as punk rock. Their performance may turn out to be one of the biggest surprises of this year’s edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. Thus, this year’s festival program is already growing to 37 artistic projects, and this is still not the end of the announcements.

More artists will soon join the program of the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. Between June 20 and 24, 2024, Strefa Kultury in Katowice will once again pulsate with music and attract thousands of visitors. Unique emotions, memorable concerts, exceptional artists and a unique location – this is the shortest recipe for the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival. It is worth visiting again.

The sponsor of the festival is Tauron Polska Energia. Co-hosted by the City of Katowice. Subsidized by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture under the “Music” program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
