Big electronica personalities join the line-up of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2023! Orbital changed the mainstream’s perception of electronica and opened the way to fame for artists such as Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers. Oneohtrix Point Never is a star of the Warp label and a seasoned experimentalist who also doesn’t shy away from producing The Weeknd’s hits. Helena Hauff proudly presents a female force in the electro scene. We will hear these outstanding artists live in Katowice in June. Passes on sale now at Buy Ticket site.
The announcement opens with Orbital, the epitome of electronic music’s creative potential. Since 1989, brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll have worked together to create an extensive catalogue of ambitious yet accessible sounds, drawing inspiration from ambient, electro, punk or film music. Their greatest hits such as ‘Chime’, ‘Halcyon’, ‘Belfast’ and ‘The Box’ can still be heard in clubs. Their revolutionary idea of playing electronic music live drew the attention of a multitude of rock fans to the unlimited pleasures inherent in this genre. There is a reason why the band’s performance at Glastonbury Festival in 1994 is regularly cited as one of the most important concerts of all time.
In 2022, the band celebrated over three decades of making music with the album ’30 Something’. In mid-February 2023, the band’s latest, tenth studio album ‘Optical Delusion’ was released. The British band is famous for its unpredictable, spontaneous concerts that never sound the same. This is exactly what Orbital will be performing at the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival in June!
The festival programme is also strengthened by Oneohtrix Point Never, who have a large number of devoted fans in Poland. Daniel Lopatin is a Brooklyn-based musician, composer and producer of experimental electronica. His latest album, Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, released in 2020, is the culmination of his oeuvre. In addition to his solo work, he was, among other things, the musical director for The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl in 2021. He has also collaborated with artists such as James Blake, Ishmael Butler, Charli XCX, Kelsey Lu, Iggy Pop, Rosali, Anohni, FKA Twigs, David Byrne, Moses Sumney and Nine Inch Nails. He also holds the award for Best Soundtrack at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for his music for the film Good Time. Oneohtrix Point Never is currently touring with a mesmerising show based on dynamic ‘reworkings’ of songs from across their catalogue, accompanied by stunning lighting and visuals.
More dancefloor sounds will be presented by Helena Hauff. This respected DJ and producer made a name for herself as a resident of the Golden Pudel club in her native Hamburg. The artist made her debut in 2013 with an album released by Werkdiscs and Ninja Tune. Since then she has released 2 original albums for Ninja Tune, as well as collaborating with PAN and Lux Rec. and founding her own label Return To Disorder. As Pitchfork wrote of her, she “captures the ironclad power she conveys in her DJ sets, while further sculpting her own space in the electro landscape”. Her 2017 BBC Essential Mix was voted the best set of the year. Helena Hauff is renowned for her incredibly precise mixing of tracks across genres – from acide, EBM, post punk and industrial to techno and electro. We will be able to admire her exceptional skills live on a hot June night in Katowice.
