From the biggest stars of alternative pop, to underground DJs and piano virtuosos, to experimental sound projects – this summer in Katowice we will hear a full cross-section of what is currently most interesting in domestic music. As many as 12 artists from Poland are joining the programme of the 18th edition of the festival. Passes can be purchased at www.festiwalnowamuzyka.pl. It’s worth to hurry up with the purchase of the tickets, because only until April 15 they will be available at a lower price!
Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice is a festival that has always emphasized its local character and this is evident in its programme every year. Also the 18th edition of the festival will be full of local artists. Fans will be delighted to hear the announcement of some of the biggest personalities of the Polish alternative scene. All of them will appear at the festival with a special repertoire.
In June, we will hear, among others, the Winner of the Polityka’s Passport 2022. The artist performed several times at Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice with his now-defunct project Syny. 1988 will present solo material inspired by ambient, jungle and bass music. Unbridled scenic energy is the domain of YANN, another peripheral-rap artist who will be heard in Katowice. The artist, associated with the Dead Wasp label, successfully combines trap and punk. Radical electronica will be presented by Avtomat, a queer producer, DJ and singer associated with the collective Ciężki Brokat. In counterpoint to the above is Bartek Wąsik and his sophisticated virtuosity. The pianist won the hearts of listeners with his emotional interpretations of Radiohead’s work (album Daydreamer).
In turn, the well-known and well-liked vocalist Baasch will sing in the company of Y – the vocalist of the band BOKKA, presenting material from his forthcoming, as yet unreleased album. Fisz Emade will also play in a new formula. This time, the Waglewski brothers will present themselves in the convention of an electronic trio. In June in Katowice, we will hear variations on tracks known from Tworzywo albums, but in a completely different form. It will be the first partially improvised performance by Fisz and Emade in such a line-up in years. Błażej Król, in turn, will play material from his latest, seventh album, W każdym (polskim) domu. This very pop and danceable, yet also reflective album will sound beautifully live in Katowice!
As every year, the festival will not be short of good jazz. EABS meets Jaubi is a supergroup formed on the basis of a musical fusion of jazzmen from Poland and Pakistan. A combination of piano, synthesisers, a powerful brass section and luscious bass and drums will be met by masters of tabla and sarangi and subtle touches of electric guitar. This international orchestra is simply not to be missed.
Members of EABS will also be performing at the festival under the new banner of Winter of the Century. The freshly established project presents an electronic version of improvised music. A clash of digital and analogue versions of jazz will also be presented by Skalpel. The global ambassadors of Polish electronica returned last year with the excellent album ‘Origins’. During the festival, they will play with a six-piece line-up. During this year’s festival, they will certainly be one of the most talked-about concerts.
A futuristic vision of contemporary club music will be presented by Earth Trax, that is Bartosz Kruczyński, one of the most versatile Polish producers and DJs. T’ien Lai, on the other hand, specialises in experiments based on inspirations from the street music of African and South American cities. The group includes acclaimed musicians such as percussionist Qba Janicki and keyboardist Łukasz Jędrzejczak (JAVVA, Alameda 5) and guitarist Jakub Ziołek (Old River, Alameda 5). Their performance may become one of the biggest surprises during this year’s festival.
And it won’t be the end of surprises, because the unveiling of the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2023 programme is still going on. More artists will join soon. Two-day passes for 349 PLN are still on sale, as well as three-day passes for 439 PLN. It is worth deciding to buy now, because after 15 April, the price of tickets will rise.
Unforgettable emotions, memorable concerts, exceptional artists and a unique location – this is the shortest recipe for the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice Festival. It is worth visiting again.
