He sang together with the likes of Beyoncé, Drake, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Solange, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware and Katy B. He won the prestigious Mercury Prize for his 2017 debut album “Process”, beating Ed Sheeran and other world-class artists. The Guardian wrote about him that “he was given honeyed, mournful vocals”. On July 1, Sampha will present his extraordinary talent at NOSPR during the closing concert of the 13th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. The Brit’s performance will be preceded by a Polish group, EABS.
Sampha charms the audience with impressive vocal capabilities, outstanding sensitivity and emotional approach to music. He is one of the world’s most original contemporary artists singing soul and R&B.
Sampha Sisay was born in London in 1988 as the youngest of five brothers in a family of immigrants from Sierra Leone. After his father had decided to buy a piano, young Sampha quickly mastered the instrument and took his first steps towards music production with the use of a computer. He made his debut in 2010 on the influential Young Turks record label. It didn’t take him too long to prove that he is a talented singer and composer, and soon he was showered with collaboration proposals from mainstream stars. After years dedicated to supporting big names, in 2017 Sampha finally released his long-awaited debut album “Process”.
On July 1, this fascinating vocalist from Great Britain will enchant the audience during the closing concert of this year’s edition of the Festival. His “honeyed and mournful” voice will sound wonderfully in the phenomenal concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR). The unique acoustics of the hall, designed by Japanese specialists, will provide extraordinary sound experiences.
Sampha’s performance will by preceded by Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions, a septet from the city of Wroclaw which last year won the hearts of music fans with their album titled “Repetitions (Letters To Krzysztof Komeda)”. EABS keep Polish jazz traditions alive, while simultaneously fitting in the worldwide renaissance of that genre. The group’s music successfully avoids typical sound schemes and presents a totally new approach to jazz, enriched with numerous elements of hip-hop and electro. Their concerts surprise with a lyrical character, avant-garde attitude and different sound each and single time. We will hear EABS playing only for 30 minutes before Sampha takes over the stage, but we can already reveal that the Polish musicians will appear at the Festival once more. For that and other reasons, More Music Agency, the organizer of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice, will release EABS’s special concert vinyl with their live performance that took place in December at Jazz Club Hipnoza. This unique record will be available for sale throughout the Festival.
The lineup for this year’s edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice has expanded to 48 artists from 19 different countries (including Poland). The list of invited musicians includes representatives of every continent besides Antarctica, which perfectly reflects the global character of the 13th edition of the festival
