The line-up of the latest announcement is not accidental. It is made up of extraordinary women, most of whom will perform solo. As in recent years, the organisers of the festival from More Music Agency have focused on diversity and richness of sound, emphasising the presence and achievements of ladies on the world music scene. This year, they will be extraordinary figures from different parts of the musical galaxy. Guitar sounds will be represented by the charismatic Anna Calvi. Since her debut
debut in 2011, she has been considered one of the most interesting British vocalists. Twice nominated for the Mercury Awards, the artist creates dark, moody and and romantic pop with elements of atmospheric rock. Often compared to PJ Harvey. She is famous for her energetic, feisty and unpredictable live shows, which is exactly what we can expect in July in Katowice.
Nilüfer Yanya is another intriguing vocalist who will sing at the 17th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. She is a fascinating and groundbreaking indie pop artist. In her songs you can hear cleverly woven guitars and sweet vocals, creating a catchy whole. Her surprising creativity is influenced by her equally intriguing roots – her Irish-Barbados mother is a textile designer, and her Turkish father’s work is exhibited in the British Museum. Her colourful and enticing melodies are sure to mesmerise the Katowice audience.
The festival will also feature the sublime sounds of choir and cello, for which one of Poland’s most interesting artists will be responsible. Resina is a composer and cellist who has worked with a long list of diverse artists: from Maciej Cieślak to Hubert Zemler and Zamilska. Above all, however, she follows her own artistic path. Her new material revolves around the tension between the animalistic and the electronic, the acoustic and the amplified. During the 17th edition of TNMK, Resina’s unearthly music from the album “Speechless” will be performed live with a choir.
This is still just the beginning of the unveiling of next year’s Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice programme. It is one of the most appreciated music festivals in Europe and its status is confirmed every year by a fascinating artistic programme and an original location. It is worth visiting again.
