The performance of the new project of American pianist Robert Glasper will crown the 13th edition of the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival! During the concert taking place in the NOSPR hall, the acclaimed jazzman will be accompanied by the R+R=NOW supergroup, created for the purpose of a unique, on-time-only world tour. This on-stage meeting of great personalities will undoubtedly provide unforgettable music experiences. Robert Glasper will be joined by saxophonist and producer Terrace Martin, responsible for the sound of Kendrick Lamar’s beats, among other things, excellent trumpeter Christian Scott, who has worked with Prince and other superstars, bass player Derrick Hodge from Robert Glasper Experiment, keyboardist and beatmaker Taylor McFerrin, best known for his avant-garde activity with the Brainfeeder collective, as well as young and talented drummer Justin Tyson. July 1, 2018 will be marked by futuristic jazz of the highest quality!

Robert Glasper is one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 21st century. Three-time Grammy winner – for the “Black Radio” album, “Jesus Childern of America” song, and soundtrack for the movie about Miles Davis. Repeatedly nominated for the most prestigious awards, he keeps searching for “new lands” in music. Glasper is a pianist to whom recording Kurt Cobain’s song cover comes as naturally as collaboration with Erykah Badu, Nora Jones or Q-Tip. His work goes beyond any classification and draws extensively not only on jazz but also on soul, hip-hop, R&B and rock. So far, Robert Glasper has been executing his numerous ideas as Robert Glasper Trio or Robert Glasper Experiment, but the upcoming year promises another breakthrough in his career.

Glasper’s newly created supergroup, R+R=NOW, composed of the biggest talents of the young American jazz scene, refers to the current social and political situation, simultaneously trying to find “new horizons of music, art and truth”. R+R=NOW constitutes a unique project, brought to life especially for one concert tour. The only Polish stop during that tour will be the group’s performance at the closing concert of the 13th edition of the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival.

Besides Robert Glasper, R+R=NOW is composed of equally talented artists. Saxophonist Terrace Martin polished his skills while producing music for superstars such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, The Game, or Busta Rhymes. Another pillar of this supergroup is trumpeter Christian Scott, who not only recorded a series of 9 original albums, but also worked with true legends such as Prince or Marcus Miller. Bass player Derrick Hodge is one of the members of Robert Glasper Experiment and a two-time Grammy winner. Taylor McFerrin is the son of Bobby McFerrin, singer who’s well-known across Poland. His first published performance took place in 1982 on his father’s debut album. A bit later, it was time for cross-genre experiments under the wings of the iconic Brainfeeder label. McFerrin’s music encompasses jazz, soul, hip-hop and R&B. Despite his young age, the band’s talented drummer Justin Tyson has already managed to play with Esperanzy Spalding, among other bands.

The impressive résumé of the musicians invited by Glasper guarantees that their joint performance in the great hall of NOSPR will be an unforgettable music event. All fans of jazz, Afro-American music and unpredictable experiments will be delighted. The unique acoustic of the hall, designed by Japanese specialists, will provide extraordinary sound experiences.

Robert Glasper and R+R=NOW join the line-up of 13 artists announced before who will perform during next year’s edition of the festival. It’s just the beginning of unveiling the programme of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2018! Between June 28 and July 1, the Culture Zone in Katowice will once again be taken over by the hottest and most intriguing beats from around the world.
