Mosaic of musical impressions – the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice’s program is growing!

21.02.2024

5th artists announcement A-Z:

One of the most respected British bands, a star of the Turkish alternative scene, a queer saxophonist-experimenter from Norway, new faces of young Polish jazz and an intriguing vocalist and her uncompromising sound. All of the above-mentioned performers are coming to the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2024. Passes and tickets for the festival are available for purchase at https://festiwalnowamuzyka.pl/!

This is the fifth cast of artists who are expanding the program of this year’s festival. In June, Katowice will hear Leftfield, one of the most respected and innovative British bands, among others. Their 1995 debut album “Leftism” remains one of the most important albums in the history of electronic music. Since 2010, Leftfield has been operating as a solo project of one of the group’s founders, Neil Barnes. With the guest participation of numerous vocalists, Leftfield’s performances do not resemble an anonymous club show, but a full-fledged concert.

The festival will also feature a more euphoric version of club music. Evian Christ has produced music for artists such as Kanye West and Travis Scott. However, in recent years he has focused on developing a legacy of trance music. His debut album, 2023’s “Revanchist,” explores the genre’s latent potential to evoke the fullest feeling of the sublime and provide an unparalleled experience for dancers.

Other tropes are followed by Bendik Giske, an artist and saxophonist whose expressive use of physicality, sensitivity and endurance has caused a wave of critical acclaim. As The Quietus wrote of him, “Giske works with the mindset of a conceptual artist, equipped with the intellectual tools of queer theory and dancefloor training from Berlin’s techno scene.” Every element of his show – be it microphone placement, light arrangement or creative sound design – is carefully considered for maximum audience response.

A strong female element will be provided by two intriguing female artists from Turkey and Poland. Tuğçe Şenoğul from Istanbul is considered one of Turkey’s most influential composers, lyricists and performers, and her innovative releases and collaborations consistently delight audiences. During the 19th edition of Tauron New Music Katowice, she will perform together with Wojtek Kucharczyk.

Artificialice, on the other hand, is an intriguing project created by singer and songwriter Alicja Sobstyl. The artist combines hypnotic vocals reminiscent of Björk, fresh arrangements in the style of Hiatus Kaiyote and the uncompromising sounds of electronics inspired by the work of Sophie or Arca. Artificialice’s performance may be one of the surprises of the festival.

There will also be plenty of fresh jazz in Katowice. Immortal Onion x Michał Jan is one of the most interesting representatives of the new wave of the genre in Poland. The Tricity-based band is sometimes called by critics the Polish answer to BadBadNotGood. The unique sound of the immortal Onion proves that the fusion of modern jazz and electronica can still be fresh and thrilling.

This is still not the end of the announcements. More artists will soon join the program of the 19th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice. Between June 20 and 24, 2024, the Culture Zone in Katowice will once again pulsate with music and attract thousands of visitors. Unique emotions, memorable concerts, exceptional artists and a unique location – this is the shortest recipe for the Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice festival. It is worth visiting again.
